The coverage of Sikkens Rubbol Primer Express is 12 to 16 m² per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with Sikkens lacquer. It’s better to have a little too much paint than too little.

Which gloss level do you recommend?
Sikkens Rubbol Primer Express has a matte finish. We recommend painting over it with a high gloss topcoat.
A high gloss lacquer should have a gloss level of 60 to 90. A satin finish has a gloss level of 30 to 60, and matte paint should remain below 30. These values are measured by the manufacturer. In some cases, we recommend a satin lacquer. This is advised when the surface is not 100% smooth. Inexperienced DIYers also often choose satin lacquer, as it is easier to hide small imperfections in the surface.

Which lacquer do I need?
When choosing your lacquer, there are many options. As long as you stick to the same base, you can use any solvent-based lacquer over this primer. For the best results, we recommend staying with the same brand. For example, choose Sikkens Rubbol Express High Gloss. If high gloss is too shiny for your taste, there are also satin solvent-based lacquers, such as Sikkens Rubbol Finura Satin. Unfortunately, a matte solvent-based lacquer does not exist. If you want a matte finish, you will need to switch to a water-based lacquer.
Are there alternatives?
Sikkens Rubbol Primer: This is a similar primer, also solvent-based. It is the "standard" primer from Sikkens, which cannot be applied at 0 degrees Celsius but performs better at 20 degrees Celsius.
