When applying acrylic paint and lacquer, it is important to choose the right brush. With the right brush, the lacquer is applied evenly, with optimal absorption and release. We believe that the VP Gold Mix Brush contains the right synthetic fibres for the best end result. This brush is made up of different fibres, combining a selection of synthetic fibres.
Which paint roller should I use?
Using a roller helps create a professional and even final result. You don’t want to be fishing lint from your freshly painted surface. Absorption and release are crucial here. For working with acrylic paint or lacquer, we recommend the Superflock Acrylic Roller.

Advantages of water-based lacquer?
For interior projects, acrylic lacquer is the perfect product. This lacquer doesn’t produce unpleasant odours when applied in your home, and since it’s free of turpentine, your colours won't yellow over time.
What is the coverage per m2?
The coverage of Sigma lacquers ranges from 12 to 16 m2 per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve coverage of 10 to 12 m2 per litre. It’s better to have a little too much paint than not enough.
What colours can it be mixed in?
We can mix any colour possible with our mixing system. To create your desired colour, simply select it in our colour picker or contact us. For mixing Sigma paints and lacquers, we use only the official Sikkens mixing machine with the corresponding pigments.

Which finish do you recommend?
For outdoor lacquer, high gloss is the most suitable. High gloss lacquer has a longer lifespan. Its smooth surface makes it less likely for dirt to stick and it’s easier to clean. Gloss is measured by a scale number.
A high gloss lacquer should have a gloss level of 60 to 90. Satin gloss has a gloss level of 30 to 60, while matte paint stays below 30. These values are measured by the factory. We sometimes recommend satin gloss lacquer, especially when the surface isn’t perfect. Even less experienced DIYers prefer satin gloss lacquer as it hides small imperfections in the surface better.

Which primer should I use?
Primer and undercoat serve the same purpose – they provide proper adhesion for the topcoat. Additionally, primers are cost-effective for absorbent surfaces as they reduce paint absorption, allowing for more coverage per litre. This leads to the best final result while saving costs.
Are there alternatives?
Sikkens Rubbol BL Rezisto Semi Gloss: This is a similar type of lacquer which can be applied both indoors and outdoors, thanks to its non-yellowing formulation. Note that all alkyd-based paint without these properties will yellow indoors over time. This Semi Gloss has a different gloss level, sitting between high gloss and satin gloss.
VP Platina Aqua Satin: This is an indoor lacquer from our own brand, which we have brought to the market ourselves. This is reflected in its price. If you’re looking for a more affordable alternative with the same qualities, this is the product for you.
