VP Covering Primer
VP Covering Primer is a professional-quality acrylic wall paint that is easy to apply. We can mix the covering variant into popular colours such as RAL 9010, grey, or anthracite. VP Covering or transparent Primer can be used on any lightly absorbent and/or powdery surface and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. VP Covering Primer has a thicker consistency, which makes it easier to work with. It instantly reduces surface absorption and provides an initial layer of coverage. Covering primer comes standard in white but can be mixed into many popular colours.
Pros and Cons
- Easy to apply
- Reduces surface absorption
- Can be sprayed
- Available in white and popular mixed colours
- Not suitable for extremely hard surfaces
- Not suitable for heavily absorbent surfaces
When Should I Use Primer?
VP Covering Primer is ideal for lightly absorbent surfaces and plastered walls. It penetrates deeply into the surface, making it stronger and stopping absorption. Primer should always be applied to untreated surfaces such as plasterboard, plastered walls, brick, concrete (not always), and cement. This covering primer is perfect for lightly absorbent surfaces, but for heavily absorbent surfaces, we recommend a sealer (water-thin). This covering primer is not suitable for hard or non-absorbent surfaces, such as plaster sections or joints treated with a finish where the covering primer cannot adhere. For questions, you can always contact our customer service and create a test patch.
What Is the Coverage Per m² of This Product?
It’s challenging to determine the exact coverage of primer as it depends greatly on the absorption of the surface. VP Covering Primer typically covers between 50 and 70 m² per 10 litres.
Pre-Treatment
Before starting your project, we recommend cleaning the surface. For instance, use St Marc degreaser. Regardless of the surface—whether it’s concrete, wood, brick, or wallpaper—always clean it first to ensure optimal adhesion. Always create a test patch initially to ensure the primer performs as expected.
Which Brush Do I Need for Wall Paint?
We recommend using a block brush to apply VP Covering Primer. The thicker consistency of VP Covering Primer, compared to water-thin primer, makes it easier to work with.
Which Paint Roller Should I Use?
To achieve a smooth and even finish, using a quality wall paint roller is essential. You don't want to deal with lint trapped in your paint. Absorption and release are key factors. We recommend using the Toptex wall paint roller for working with wall paint/latex. This roller has consistently been the best in our tests. More About This Product
We offer our own-brand primer, which is of excellent quality and effectively reduces surface absorption. This is a covering primer, making it thicker than standard primer. We recommend treating your wall with primer twice to ensure proper adhesion for your paint. For the best application, use a large block brush and then roll it out with a fleece roller. This covering primer can also be pre-coloured, which enhances the coverage of your wall paint. This is particularly useful for darker colours since applying grey primer directly improves coverage.
