Frequently Asked Questions about this product
Which brush should I use?
For applying alkyd paint and lacquer, it is important to choose the right brush. The right brush ensures the lacquer is applied evenly with optimal absorption and release. We recommend the VP Gold Mix Fibre brush, which contains the right fibres for the best result. This brush is made up of a combination of traditional pig bristles and selected synthetic fibres.
Which roller should I use?
Using a roller ensures a smooth and even finish. You don’t want to be picking lint out of your paintwork. Absorption and release are key. We recommend using the Copenhagen Pro Lacquer Roller or the Anza Felt Roller.
When should I use it?
Sigma S2U Allure Gloss is most suitable for protecting doors and window frames against weather conditions. Sigma S2U/Contour Satin is an easy-to-use product for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.
Advantages of alkyd lacquer
For outdoor work, alkyd lacquer is the ideal product. This lacquer is more resistant to weather conditions, giving it a longer lifespan compared to water-based products.
What is the difference between Sigma S2U and Sigma Contour?
Sigma is a large and well-known brand worldwide. Sigma sells its products under different names in different countries. Sigma S2U is the Dutch line, while Sigma Contour is the name used in Germany for products with the same properties and quality.
What is the coverage per m²?
The coverage of Sigma lacquers is 12 to 16 m² per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with Sigma lacquer. It’s better to have a little too much paint than too little.
In which colours can it be mixed?
We can mix any colour with our mixing system. To mix your desired colour, simply select it in our colour selector or contact us. For mixing Sikkens paints and lacquers, we exclusively use the official Sikkens mixing machine, including the corresponding pigments.

We can mix any colour you desire.

Traffic white - RAL 9016
Other common colours:

Black grey - RAL 7021
Pine green or Monument green - RAL 6009

Which gloss level do you recommend?
For outdoor lacquer, high gloss is the most suitable. High-gloss lacquer has a longer lifespan because its smooth surface attracts less dirt and is easier to clean. Gloss levels are always indicated with a number. High-gloss lacquer has a gloss level of 60 to 90. Satin gloss ranges from 30 to 60, and matt paint is below 30.
These values are measured by the manufacturer. In some cases, we recommend satin gloss lacquer, especially if the surface is not perfect. Many DIY enthusiasts also prefer satin gloss because it hides imperfections better.
High gloss (60-90): Ideal for outdoor work
Satin gloss (30-60): Ideal for uneven surfaces
Matt paint (below 30): Ideal for indoor work
Which primer should I use?
Primer and undercoat serve the same purpose: ensuring good adhesion of the final product. Additionally, it is cost-effective for absorbent surfaces. A primer reduces absorbency, allowing more square metres to be covered per litre of paint. This results in the best finish and saves costs.
Are there alternatives?
Sigma offers various high-quality lacquers. Of course, there are other brands and products, sometimes at a more favourable price. For example, Nelf offers the Nelf Caraat SB, and our own brand VP Platina SB is also a great alternative. These products have similar or even better properties. The Nelf Caraat SB has a lifespan of 8 years, while the VP Platina offers the same properties as the AZ but with a better price-to-quality ratio. Whatever you choose, we always deliver the highest quality.
