Koopmans Paint has been around for many years. It was established in 1885 by Klaas Piet Koopmans, from whom the name P.K. Koopmans originated. By 1890, production became significant enough to move from its founder’s home in Ferwerd to a small factory in the village. By 1930, P.K. Koopmans launched Koopmans Extralux, a range offering standard primers and topcoats. During the 1970s, Koopmans Paint introduced the Perkoleum line, which remains highly popular today. The 1980s saw the end of the oil crisis, increasing disposable incomes and boosting the demand for paint. Koopmans responded by opening a new factory at the village outskirts. Later, in 1992, Koopmans launched Ecoleum, a tar substitute product that is more eco-friendly, which is still available today. By 1997, the Koopmans Paint factory relocated to Marrum, creating a state-of-the-art facility capable of serving the Netherlands and parts of Europe. Koopmans Paint Factory also produces other brands, including Drenth Paint, Pastolex Wall Paint, and Nylo Coatings.
