Nelf Nelfalite Xtreme System
Nelfalite Xtreme System is an extremely weather-resistant exterior paint that provides a reliable semi-gloss finish on wood, metal, and hard plastics. The advantage of this paint is that it is a one-pot system, meaning it acts as both a primer and a topcoat. You no longer need to search for a matching primer or paint as this single can does it all.
Nelfalite Xtreme System is easy to clean using your usual household cleaning agents. The ideal application temperature ranges from 5 to 30 degrees Celsius with a maximum humidity of 85%. Under optimal conditions (20 degrees Celsius), this lacquer is recoatable after 6 hours, allowing you to complete your project over the weekend. Another significant advantage is that this paint comes ready to use, so no dilution is needed. Of course, you may dilute it with turpentine if preferred.
We are an authorised Nelf dealer with access to official Nelf mixing systems. Nelf was one of the first paint manufacturers in the Netherlands to use electricity for production. Since its inception, Nelf has focused on the professional market. Its products, even in the early days, were used to protect carriages, shops, houses, commercial buildings, and factories. Today, Nelf has become one of the leading paint brands for professionals. Be sure to explore our Sikkens offers for the best deals on Sikkens products.
Pros and Cons
- Primer and topcoat in one
- Easy to apply
- Customisable in any colour
- Not suitable for interior use
Which brush should I use?
For alkyd-based paints and lacquers, selecting the right brush is key to achieving an even application and optimal absorption and release. We recommend the Copenhagen Lacquer Roller or the Anza Felt Roller for the best results. These brushes combine natural pig bristles with synthetic fibres.
Which roller should I use?
A roller ensures a smooth and even finish. You certainly don’t want to deal with lint in your paintwork. Proper absorption and release are essential. We suggest the Copenhagen Lacquer Roller or the Anza Felt Roller when working with alkyd-based paints or lacquers.
When to use this product?
Nelfalite Xtreme System is perfect for protecting all exterior woodwork, such as doors and window frames. It's an easy-to-use solution for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. Thanks to its primer-and-paint-in-one feature, there’s no need to find an additional pot of paint.
Why use this product?
Nelfalite Xtreme System is moisture-regulating—a crucial feature for surfaces where moisture tends to absorb quickly, such as softwood, garden houses, and verandas. It allows moisture to escape during summer and reabsorbs it during winter. Without regulation, paint layers might peel as wood needs to breathe. Therefore, softer woods are better treated with Nelfalite Xtreme System, while harder woods are best finished with professional-grade lacquers.
What is moisture regulation?
Moisture-regulating paint enables wood to "breathe." This allows moisture to escape, preserving the quality of softer woods like those in garden houses and verandas for longer periods.
Why won’t this product peel?
Nelfalite Xtreme System penetrates deeply into the wood, supporting its ability to breathe. Unlike lacquers, which form a protective topcoat, this product allows natural airflow. Non-breathable lacquers trap moisture, leading to peeling. Therefore, consider the type of wood and project requirements when selecting paint. Nelfalite Xtreme System works best on softer woods, while harder woods generally suit traditional lacquers better.
Benefits of alkyd-based paint
Alkyd paints are excellent for outdoor projects, offering better resistance to weather conditions compared to water-based paints. Normally, alkyd paints may yellow when used indoors. To avoid this, choose a product with "anti-yellowing properties" for interior use.
What is the paint coverage per m²?
Nelf paints usually cover between 12 and 16 m² per litre. However, most painters report actual coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre. It’s always better to have a little extra paint on hand than run out mid-project.

Recommended finishes
Primer coats do not have a defined gloss level. However, for lacquers, here are our recommendations:
- High-gloss (60–90): Ideal for outdoor surfaces
- Satin-gloss (30–60): Suitable for uneven surfaces
- Matte (below 30): Best for interior use
High-gloss finishes are durable, easy to clean, and repel dirt effectively. For slightly imperfect surfaces or for beginners, satin-gloss can hide minor flaws more easily.
Which primer do I need?
The Nelfalite Xtreme System acts as a primer and topcoat in one, making separate primers unnecessary. Traditional primers serve to improve adhesion and reduce paint absorption on surfaces, maximising coverage while reducing cost.
