Alkyd paint is mainly used for outdoor applications and is thinned with white spirit. Not everyone recognises the term alkyd paint; it’s also referred to as solvent-based paint or white spirit-based paint. But why choose alkyd paint? It’s highly durable for outdoor use, often lasting up to 10 years. Its slower drying time allows for excellent flow, making it easy to apply. For outdoor projects, we always recommend alkyd paint. For indoor use, consider acrylic paint instead, which can be thinned with water or an acrylic thinner.

What types of alkyd paint are there?

Alkyd paint is another name for solvent-based paint. It is available in both opaque and transparent finishes. You can also choose from various sheen levels, including satin or high gloss, though matte finishes are rare. We have one transparent varnish in our range that is alkyd-based.

What alkyd paint colours can I order?

Alkyd paint can be ordered in any colour. Using our mixing machines and pigments, we can create the exact shade you want. For mixing your chosen colour, we require a valid colour code. Without this, it’s unfortunately not possible to mix the desired colour. The RAL colour palette is the most commonly used reference.
