VP Platinum PU Satin
VP Platinum PU Satin is a stunning satin-finish paint for both indoor and outdoor use. VP Platinum PU provides excellent adhesion on various surfaces. Additionally, our own brand PU stands out for its scratch resistance, long lifespan, and quick drying time. Thanks to the use of high-quality raw materials, this paint has an exceptionally low yellowing rate.
This paint is a highly weather-resistant outdoor coat, delivering a reliable semi-gloss finish on wood, metal, and hard plastics. This product is part of our own brand and is comparable to the Sikkens Rubbol range.
Pros and Cons
- Up to 7 years maintenance-free
- Easy to apply
- Can be mixed in any colour
- Colours may yellow indoors due to the turpentine
This is a satin-finish paint based on alkyd (turpentine). We can mix this paint in any colour. It is intended for painting wood, metal, and various hard plastics that have been pre-treated according to the guidelines.
VP Platinum features high coverage, excellent flow, and protection lasting up to 7 years. VP Platinum is easy to clean using your usual cleaning products. The ideal application temperature is between 5-30 degrees Celsius, with maximum humidity of 85%. Under ideal conditions (20 degrees), this paint is ready for re-coating after 18 hours, making it perfect for completing a project over the weekend. Another great advantage is that this paint is ready to use and does not need to be diluted. Of course, you may dilute it if you wish. Use turpentine for dilution.
What is VP Platinum PU Satin used for?
VP Platinum is suitable for protecting all outdoor woodwork, such as doors and frames. This paint is an easy-to-use product for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.
Why should I choose an alkyd-based paint?
For outdoor projects, alkyd paint is the ideal choice. This paint is more resistant to weather conditions, resulting in a longer lifespan compared to water-based products. Normally, alkyd paint tends to yellow when used indoors. If you want to use alkyd paint indoors, ensure it contains a “dark yellowing resistance” formula, which prevents yellowing indoors.
What is the coverage per m² for this product?
The coverage of VP paints is 12 to 14 m² per litre. However, our experience is that most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with VP paint. It’s better to have a little too much paint than too little.
What colours can this product be mixed in?
We can mix any colour using our colour mixing system. Simply choose your desired colour through our colour picker, or contact us. For mixing VP paints, we use the appropriate machines with the corresponding official pigments.

Which gloss finish do you recommend?
For outdoor paints, a high gloss finish is the most suitable. High gloss paints have a longer lifespan. The smooth surface means less dirt adheres to the paint, making it easier to clean. Gloss levels are always indicated with a number.
High Gloss, Satin and Matt Paint Guide
A high gloss paint should have a gloss level between 60 and 90. Satin paint features a gloss level of 30 to 60, and matt finishes must stay below 30. These values are measured by the factories. In some cases, we recommend satin paint. This is advised when the surface is not 100% perfect. Additionally, less experienced DIY enthusiasts often prefer satin finishes, as they help disguise minor surface imperfections more effectively.
High Gloss (60-90) - Ideal for outdoor projects
Satin (30-60) - Perfect for concealing surface imperfections
Matt (below 30) - Best suited for indoor projects
What type of brush do I need for alkyd lacquer?
When applying alkyd paint or lacquer, selecting the right brush is crucial. A suitable brush ensures the lacquer is applied evenly with optimal absorption and release. We believe the VP Platinum Mix Fibre Brush contains the ideal fibres for the best results. This brush combines traditional pig bristles with a selection of synthetic fibres.
What kind of roller should I use?
A roller is perfect for achieving a smooth and even finish. You certainly wouldn't want lint interfering with your paintwork! Absorption and release are essential factors here. We recommend using the Copenhagen felt roller or the Anza felt roller when working with alkyd paint or lacquer.
What primer do I need?
Primer and undercoat essentially perform the same function. They ensure proper adhesion of the final product while saving costs on absorbent surfaces. Primers reduce the absorbency of surfaces, allowing more coverage per litre of paint. This results in an outstanding finish and cost savings. The primer that complements this product is the VP Platinum Primer.
Are there alternatives to this product?
Sikkens Rubbol Finura Satin: This is a satin paint that can be applied both indoors and outdoors, thanks to its yellowing resistance formula. Keep in mind that all alkyd paints without a “dark yellowing resistance” formula will yellow when used indoors.
VP Platinum PU Gloss: This is an outdoor paint from our own brand. We’ve brought this product to market ourselves, which is reflected in its competitive price. It does have a different gloss level. If you're looking for a more affordable alternative with equivalent quality, this is the product for you.
