What is paint lacquer?
Paint lacquer is used to colour and finish wooden surfaces. For instance, you would apply paint lacquer to a wooden door for a sleek and polished finish. Use water-based (acrylic) lacquer for indoor projects and solvent-based (alkyd) lacquer for outdoor projects. For indoor furniture, always choose scratch and wear-resistant lacquer so you don’t need to worry about damage.

Before starting, measure how many square metres you plan to paint. Multiply the length and width of your surface to calculate the area. On average, one litre of paint covers 10–12 square metres. Always apply a primer if you’re working with bare wood.
Types of paint lacquer
There are various types of paint lacquer, including solvent-based, water-based, and silicone-based varieties. Silicone-based lacquers are more flexible and offer improved flow. Most indoor lacquers are water-based to avoid unpleasant odours, although there are excellent solvent-based options for indoor use as well.
