VP Platinum Epoxy EP
VP Platinum Epoxy EP is a scratch and wear-resistant two-component epoxy coating based on thinner. Suitable for various surfaces, VP Epoxy EP becomes chemically resistant after curing. Due to its traditional thinner base, the product adheres tightly to the substrate. However, thinner-based products are less environmentally friendly.
Pros and Cons
- Scratch and wear-resistant
- Two-component
- Thinner-based
- Available only in standard mixed colours
Where can I use VP Platinum Epoxy EP?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP is suitable for various applications. It is most commonly purchased by homeowners looking to treat their garage floors with an epoxy coating. The product is available in four fixed colours that we mix in-house. Due to the current shortage of epoxy raw materials, slight colour variations between batches may occur. To avoid issues, we recommend completing your project in one go rather than ordering more at a later date.
Can VP Platinum Epoxy EP be used outdoors?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP is suitable for outdoor use. Its thinner base and UV filter make it ideal for external applications. Always consider weather conditions and ambient temperature during application.
Is VP Platinum Epoxy EP suitable for car garages?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP is highly suitable for car garages. It can withstand vehicle tyres and is extremely durable. For garages with heavy usage exposed to daily traffic and chemicals, we recommend applying an additional transparent PU-based epoxy coating for extra protection.
Can I use VP Platinum Epoxy EP in my living room?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP’s thinner base means it produces strong odours during application and curing. We advise against using it in occupied homes, especially where children are present or residents are sleeping. However, it can be used in empty or new-build houses, provided sufficient ventilation is ensured.
What is the coverage per m² of VP Epoxy EP?
The coverage of this floor coating depends heavily on the substrate and the desired layer thickness. Below is an average coverage guide for one layer:
- Rough Concrete: Approximately 5 m² per litre. 10 litres cover 50 m². No primer required. Dilute the first layer by 5–10%, and ensure the floor is degreased, lightly sanded, and dust-free. Two layers are needed for optimal thickness. For high loads, we recommend a third transparent PU coating.
- Stone: Similar to rough concrete. Coverage is approximately 5 m² per litre. Two layers are required, with an optional third PU coating for extreme loads.
- Cement screed: Same as rough concrete, with coverage of 5 m² per litre. Ensure the screed is well-prepared.
- Levelling Floor: Coverage is approximately 5 m² per litre. If extensive sanding is done, primer may not be necessary. Two coats are recommended.
- Polished Concrete: Coverage of 6 m² per litre. Application of a primer is essential for adhesion. Follow with two epoxy coats and a possible third PU coat for extra durability.
- Old Paint Layers: Coverage varies between 6–7 m² per litre. Always test adhesion first. Any reaction depends on the specific paint layer.
What colours is this product available in?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP can be mixed in four specific colours, tested to ensure proper drying and curing. Due to raw material shortages, we recommend completing your project with materials from the same batch to avoid colour inconsistencies.
What brush should I use for epoxy coating?
We recommend a disposable brush for applying epoxy coating. Due to the nature of the product, brushes are unusable after the coating process.
Which paint roller should I use?
We recommend a nylon roller, as it ensures optimal layer thickness and a streak-free finish. These rollers cannot be reused and should be disposed of after use.
What is the mixing ratio for Epoxy EP?
The mixing ratio for Epoxy EP is 4:1. For a 5-litre container, this means 4 litres of Epoxy EP coating and 1 litre of hardener.
Steps for VP Platinum Epoxy EP Application
Follow these steps for optimal results:
- Inspection: Ensure the floor is dry, clean, and moisture-free. Check for surface integrity and verify that temperature and humidity levels are within range.
- Preparation: Degrease, sand, and clean the floor. Repair any imperfections. Use industrial cleaners like B-Clean to remove tyre marks or grease if necessary.
- Mixing: Thoroughly mix the coating (component A) with the hardener (component B) for at least 3 minutes until homogeneous.
- Application: Start with a 10% diluted coat for deep penetration, followed by one or two undiluted layers. Use a nylon roller for even application, ensuring proper ventilation during drying.
