Flock roller, the best acrylic roller

A flock roller is basically a foam roller with very fine fibres. This ensures that a flock roller delivers the smoothest result when painting with water-based or acrylic paint. However, one downside of flock rollers is that achieving the desired layer thickness can be challenging. Compared to rollers with longer fibres, paint absorption and release are less efficient. Unfortunately, you can’t have it all. If you still choose a flock roller, make sure it’s completely dry before you start painting. This prevents clumping and ensures an even distribution of paint on the surface.

Acrylic paint roller

Professional-quality acrylic rollers for applying acrylic or water-based paint are available in all shapes and sizes. Our preference is for an acrylic roller with super-small fibres, often called a flock roller. The only downside of this high-quality acrylic roller is that absorption and release are less efficient than with a traditional acrylic roller. However, in terms of results, this roller delivers the best and smoothest finish when applying water-based paint.

Acrylic rollers or foam rollers

The odd thing is that a foam roller can also be an acrylic roller. Foam rollers are somewhat outdated and were mainly popular in the 80s and 90s. Foam rollers can create an orange peel effect, which is usually not desirable for an acrylic roller. On the other hand, flock acrylic rollers are a better choice for applying acrylic paint.

Which acrylic roller should I use?

When painting your indoor walls or frames, using an acrylic roller is convenient as it allows you to cover larger areas in less time. If you’re using an acrylic roller, we recommend the VP Toptex wall paint roller. For lacquering a surface with a water-based lacquer using a roller, we suggest the Anza felt roller. This lacquer roller is suitable for both water-based and solvent-based lacquers.
