- Not suitable for interior use
What is Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss used for?
Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss is ideal for protecting garden sheds and canopies. It is a durable, moisture-regulating, and water-repellent stain.
Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss is linseed oil-based. What are its advantages and disadvantages?
Linseed oil has been used as a paint ingredient for decades. Its popularity today stems from its eco-friendliness compared to traditional alkyd resins. One common misconception is that linseed oil-based paints or stains cannot be repainted—this is not true! Linseed oil often cures more slowly, offering greater flexibility to expand and contract, a significant advantage for older structures.
However, there are some drawbacks. Linseed oil products, including Koopmans Perkoleum, often have slower drying times and may feel sticky in warm weather. At colder temperatures, its drying and curing become less effective. Avoid applying Koopmans Perkoleum when the ambient temperature is below 6 degrees Celsius.
What is the coverage per m² of this product?
The coverage of Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss depends on the surface. Being a single-coat system, no primer is necessary, leading the first coat to have a higher usage rate than subsequent layers. Average coverage is 10 to 12 m² per litre, though the factory suggests a coverage of 14 m² per litre.

What gloss levels are available with Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss?
Koopmans Perkoleum is available in both high gloss (60–90 sheen) and satin gloss (30–60 sheen). Satin gloss effectively conceals imperfections, while high gloss offers a cleaner, easier-to-maintain finish.
Can Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss be applied directly to bare wood?
Yes, Koopmans Perkoleum can be directly applied to bare wood. We recommend two coats for untreated surfaces. If the previous coat of paint is still intact, you can paint over it directly.
Is Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss repaintable?
Yes, it can be painted over without issue. Simply clean and sand the surface gently beforehand. Despite being linseed oil-based, it’s compatible with other brands of paint as well.
Is Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss opaque or transparent?
Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss is available in both opaque and transparent finishes. Options include High Gloss Opaque, High Gloss Transparent, High Gloss Clear UV, Satin Gloss Opaque, Satin Gloss Transparent, and Satin Gloss Clear UV variants.
What type of brush or roller is recommended?
Koopmans Perkoleum High Gloss can be applied with either a professional brush or a roller. For large surfaces like garden sheds or fencing, rollers are more practical but may require supplementary use of a brush for grooves. For window frames or doors, a specialised lacquer roller is recommended.
Are there alternatives to this product?
Sikkens Rubbol EPS: A moisture-regulating paint for doors and windows.
VP System Paint: Another moisture-regulating single-coat system suitable for untreated wood, offering a satin gloss finish.
