Which brush should I use for wall paint?
For applying wall paint, it is important to choose the right brush. The right brush ensures the latex is applied evenly, with optimal absorption and release. Which paint roller should I use?
Using a wall paint roller ensures a smooth and even finish. You don’t want to be picking lint out of your paintwork. The absorption and release of the roller are crucial. When should I use it?
Sigma Sol Silicate has high water vapour permeability, making it highly suitable for protecting exterior facades. Sigma Sol Silicate has a lifespan of up to 8 years, making it a very durable product.
What is moss-, mould-, and algae-resistant wall paint?
The major advantage of Sigma Sol Silicate is that moss, mould, and algae have no chance of growing. The silicate sol component repels these organisms and does not feed them like other products. I often come across facades (especially in shaded areas) that are completely green with algae and moss. This is often a sign of cheaper wall paint. By finishing with Sigma Sol Silicate, this becomes a thing of the past.
Can this product be applied over existing wall paint?
Sigma Sol Silicate can be applied over old paint layers. It is advisable to thoroughly degrease the walls and lightly sand them for extra adhesion. Follow the steps outlined above. Always test a small area first.
Which surfaces can it be applied to?

What is silicate wall paint?
Silicate wall paint is based on silicate, a material that may not be familiar to most people. Silicate hardens the facade, meaning the paint bonds with the stone rather than sitting on top of it. This ensures that silicate wall paint will never peel and has a much longer lifespan than traditional wall paint. A silicate sol product has the following features and properties. This is also known as sol-silicate, a combination of silicasol and water glass.
What is the coverage per m²?
Sigma Sol Silicate can be applied in two layers. The first layer will have a slightly higher consumption than the second. The average consumption is 90 to 125 ml per m². On average, this is 100 m² per 10 litres of Sigma Sol Silicate for one layer. Please note this is an estimate; actual consumption may vary depending on absorbent surfaces or the thickness of application. We only provide an average consumption for Sigma Sol Silicate.
Which surfaces can it be used on?
This varies depending on the surface. Below is a list of different surfaces: New plasterwork, Old plasterwork, Concrete, Sand-lime brick, Masonry, Brick, Previously applied paint layers.

Pre-Treatment
Before starting your project, we always recommend cleaning the surface. For example, use St Marc degreaser. Regardless of the surface you are treating, whether concrete, wood, stone, or wallpaper, always clean it first to ensure the best possible adhesion.
Do I Need Primer?
Before treating your wall with wall paint/latex, it is important to determine whether you need primer. The good news is that you can figure this out yourself by doing a simple test. Take a wet sponge and press it against the wall. If the wall absorbs the water, a primer is needed first. If the wall does not absorb moisture, no pre-treatment is required.
