Avis Multiprimer
Avis Multiprimer is designed for outdoor use and is therefore alkyd (turpentine)-based. This is a primer intended for a coat of paint on wood, metal, and hard plastics, as well as other challenging surfaces. This primer improves the bond between the paint and the surface, resulting in a more professional-looking final result. We can mix this primer in any colour. Avis Multiprimer is quick-drying, moisture-regulating, and has excellent flow. This product can be applied perfectly with a brush or roller. Besides Avis products, De Verfmenger also offers items from popular brands like Sigma, Sikkens, and Koopmans. Check out our Sikkens offers.
Pros and Cons
- Moisture-regulating
- Adheres to challenging surfaces
- No smell during application
- Less suitable for indoor use
Avis Multiprimer is a highly adhesive primer for difficult surfaces including galvanised steel, zinc, aluminium, wood, and plastics. Once dry, it forms a smooth and sealed film that offers durability, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance. Avis Multiprimer can be recoated after approximately 4 hours, depending on the surface, with almost all conventional paints and lacquers. It can be applied with a brush, roller, or spray equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions about this Product
Which brush should I use?
Choosing the right brush is critical for a flawless finish. The ideal brush absorbs paint efficiently and spreads it evenly on the surface, resulting in a smooth and even coat. The VP Gold Mix Brush is perfect for this product. It has all the required characteristics to apply the primer effectively. It consists of a mix of synthetic fibres and Chinese pig hair, ensuring impurity-free application.
Which roller should I use?
With a quality roller, you can achieve a neat and even finish. It's essential to ensure the roller has excellent absorption and distribution properties. We recommend the Copenhagen Lacquer Roller or the Anza Felt Roller. These rollers are perfect for achieving a seamless outcome.
What is Avis?
AVIS has a long and rich history. Founded in 1701, the brand is named after the Avis family from the Zaan region. Many paint brands originated in this area, but most have disappeared over time. Avis started producing linseed oil from flaxseed in 1724 at the "De Koperslager" windmill, which was unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1964 and never rebuilt. By then, production had already shifted to a modern factory in Westzaan at the end of the 19th century. Around the turn of the 20th century, Avis also opened facilities along Amsterdam’s Brouwersgracht.
When should I use this primer?
Avis Multiprimer is suitable for priming woodwork for outdoor use, such as doors, stairs, and window frames. It is also ideal for priming challenging surfaces such as metal and plastic. This primer improves adhesion between the surface and the paint, resulting in a tidier final outcome. Avis Aqua Multiprimer is easy to work with, making it suitable for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.
What are the advantages of alkyd paint?
For exterior projects, alkyd paint is the ideal option. It offers better resistance to weather, providing a longer lifespan than water-based alternatives. Typically, alkyd paint discolours when used indoors. If you plan to use it indoors, ensure it contains a “no yellowing” compound to prevent discolouration.
What is the coverage per m²?
The coverage of Avis paints ranges between 12 to 14 m² per litre. However, based on experience, most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre. It's better to have a little extra paint than to fall short.

Which lacquer should I use?
We recommend sticking to the same brand as the primer to ensure compatibility between the primer and lacquer. Avis offers three types of lacquers, which include Avis Pu Sealer. You can select your preferred gloss level from high gloss, satin, or matte finishes.
Are there alternatives?
Sikkens Rubbol Primer: This is a similar type of primer with a turpentine base. It pairs well with the Sikkens BL Rezisto Satin range for example.
VP Multiprimer: This is a multiprimer from our private label, reflected in its competitive pricing. If you’re looking for a primer for challenging surfaces with comparable performance, this product is ideal.
