What is Avis?
AVIS has a long and rich history, founded in 1701 and named after the Avis family from the Zaan region. Although many paint brands originated here, most have since disappeared. Avis began producing linseed oil from flaxseed in 1724 at the windmill “De Koperslager,” which was destroyed by fire in 1964. By then, production had relocated to a modern factory in Westzaan at the end of the 19th century. During the early 20th century, the brand also moved into several premises along Amsterdam’s Brouwersgracht.
