Owatrol Oil
Owatrol Oil is the best solution to prevent and combat rust. When applied to bare metal, Owatrol Oil does not cause discolouration but instead immediately conserves the surface. This stops oxidation in its tracks and prevents any further rust formation. Owatrol Oil can also be used as a thinner for alkyd paints or to improve adhesion on wood, metal, or iron surfaces.
Pros and Cons
- Improves adhesion
- Can be used as a thinner
- Rust prevention
- Does not alter colour
- Not suitable for water-based paints
Using Owatrol Oil as a Thinning Additive?
Owatrol Oil is highly effective when used to thin alkyd paints. By using Owatrol Oil, you enhance the topcoat or primer, improving its durability. Additionally, Owatrol Oil is rust-resistant and helps the paint to harden further.
Adding Owatrol Oil to make a paint rust-resistant
By adding Owatrol Oil, you can make the paint rust-resistant. However, a significant amount must be added, which will considerably thin the paint. We recommend diluting the paint by 25% to achieve rust resistance.
Adding Owatrol Oil to improve paint workability
To make paint easier to work with, we suggest a 5% dilution using Owatrol Oil.
Which Paints Can Be Thinned with Owatrol Oil?
Owatrol Oil can be used with any alkyd paint. This includes popular options such as Sikkens Rubbol XD High Gloss, Sigma Contour Gloss, Nelf Caraat SB, and VP Platina SB.
Does Owatrol Oil Ensure Perfect Adhesion?
Applying Owatrol Oil to metal, aluminium, glass, steel, or wood significantly improves adhesion. Furthermore, Owatrol Oil displaces all rust and halts it immediately (ensure any loose rust is removed beforehand).
Using Owatrol Oil on bare wood
It deeply impregnates the wood, enabling the primer and topcoat to adhere excellently.
Using Owatrol Oil on non-ferrous metals
Applying Owatrol Oil to these surfaces minimises light rust formation while creating an ideal base for primer and/or paint.
Can Owatrol Oil Be Applied Directly to Metal or Iron?
Yes, applying Owatrol Oil directly to metal or iron provides rust protection. The oil uses existing rust as a pigment to prevent further rust formation. We particularly recommend applying Owatrol Oil directly to weld seams.
What Tools Are Best for Applying Owatrol Oil?
You can apply Owatrol Oil using a brush. For larger surfaces, a roller can be used, although a brush is more commonly chosen.
