Epoxy wood sealer is a very thin epoxy resin with an easy-to-use 1:1 mixing ratio (by volume). This ratio is not critical but should be followed as closely as possible.
It is used wherever new or already affected wood is exposed to moisture. This epoxy resin is so thin that it easily penetrates the wood, especially if it is slightly porous, as is often the case with damaged wood. Wood fibres and harmful microorganisms are completely encapsulated. The thin epoxy resin will sink into the surface, especially if it’s porous. Apply as often as needed until the resin no longer sinks into the surface, or depending on the level of protection required.
Can You Work on "Wet" Wood Sealer?
You can work on still “wet” wood sealer, which provides excellent adhesion. However, if the wood sealer has fully dried, you must sand it with coarse sandpaper before continuing. Complete drying is necessary for further processing with other materials, such as polyester filler or paint. Depending on the layer thickness, this can take anywhere from 2 hours to a day at room temperature. Apart from penetrating wood, epoxy wood sealer can also be used as a thin high-quality epoxy varnish for non-porous surfaces. This makes it suitable for protecting metal, stone, and concrete (e.g., to create dust-free concrete floors) with a hard glossy layer. To achieve a smooth and tack-free surface, allow the mixed wood sealer to react for about an hour before application.
Processing Temperature
Once mixed, the resin can be worked with for several hours at 20°C. Drying will happen more quickly once it’s applied to the wood surface. The minimum processing temperature is 5°C. If stored below 0°C, the hardener component B may separate slightly, forming a thick liquid at the bottom of the bottle. Ensure the mixture is shaken well at a minimum of 5°C until it becomes fully transparent again.
