Sigma Torno Aqua Primer
Sigma Torno Aqua Primer is designed for indoor use. This is a primer for a paint layer on wood, metal, and hard plastics. As a premium brand product, you benefit from absolute quality.
Sigma Torno Aqua Primer is a water-based acrylic primer. This ensures better adhesion between your surface and the paint, resulting in a superior final finish. Additionally, this primer will not produce unpleasant odours in your home as it is water-based. We can mix this primer in any colour. It serves as a primer for wood, hard PVC, and other plastics, as well as concrete and plasterwork. This paint is ready to use and does not need to be diluted. However, if you prefer, you can dilute it with water or an acrylic thinner. Check out our Sigma S2U offers.
Pros and Cons
- Fast drying
- Indoor primer
- Odour during application
- Not suitable for outdoor use
Which brush should I use?
We recommend the VP Gold Mix Fibre Brush, which contains the right fibres for the best result. These are essential properties for applying alkyd paint and lacquer. Choosing the right brush is always important. The right brush ensures the paint is applied evenly, with optimal absorption and release. This brush is made of various fibres, enhancing its absorption and release capabilities.
Which paint roller should I use?
For working with alkyd paint or lacquer, we recommend the Copenhagen Lacquer Roller or the Anza Felt Roller. Choosing a good roller is crucial, as the absorption and release of the paint are essential. With the right roller and proper preparation, you can ensure a smooth and even finish.
When should I use it?
Sigma Torno Primer is suitable for protecting all indoor woodwork, such as doors, stairs, and frames. This primer is used to improve adhesion between your surface and the paint.
Advantages of water-based paint
For indoor projects, acrylic paint is the ideal product. This paint does not produce unpleasant odours during application and, as it contains no turpentine, your colours will not yellow over time.
What is the coverage per m²?
The coverage of Sigma paints is 12 to 16 m² per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with Sigma paint. It’s better to have a little too much paint than too little.
In which colours can it be mixed?
We can mix any colour with our mixing system. To mix your desired colour, simply select it in our colour selector or contact us.

Which Gloss Level Do You Recommend?
There is no gloss level for a primer. However, for your lacquer, you can read our recommendations below. For exterior lacquer, high gloss is the most suitable. High gloss lacquer has a longer lifespan. The surface is smooth, which means less dirt adheres to the lacquer. Additionally, it is easier to clean. Gloss is always indicated with a number.
A high gloss lacquer should have a gloss level of 60 to 90. Satin gloss has a gloss level of 30 to 60, and matte paint should remain below 30. These values are measured by the manufacturer. In some cases, we recommend satin gloss lacquer. This is advised when the surface is not 100% perfect. Less experienced DIYers also often choose satin gloss paint as it hides minor imperfections more effectively.
High gloss (60-90): Ideal for exterior work
Satin gloss (30-60): Ideal for surfaces with imperfections
Matte paint (less than 30): Ideal for interior work
Which Lacquer Do I Need?
When choosing your lacquer, there are many options. As long as you stick to the same base, you can use any solvent-based lacquer over this primer. If you want the best results, we recommend staying with the same brand. For example, choose the Sigma Contour Gloss. If you find high gloss too shiny, there are also satin gloss lacquers available on a solvent base, such as Sigma Contour Satin. Unfortunately, a matte lacquer on a solvent base does not exist. If you want a matte finish, you will need to switch to a water-based lacquer.
Are There Alternatives?
Sikkens Rubbol BL Rezisto Primer: This is a similar type of primer that is also water-based. This primer pairs well with the other BL Rezisto lacquer series, such as Sikkens Rubbol BL Rezisto Satin.
VP Platina Aqua Primer: This is a water-based primer from our own brand, which we have brought to the market ourselves. This is also reflected in the price. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative with the same qualities, this is the product for you.
