What should I use to apply Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain?
For applying Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain, you can use a professional brush or a lint-free roller, depending on the size and accessibility of the surface. For smaller surfaces or those with intricate details, a brush often provides the best results, offering precision and control. For larger, flat surfaces, a roller can be more efficient and ensures an even distribution of the stain. Make sure to use high-quality tools to avoid leaving hairs or fibres on your wooden surface. For optimal results, apply the stain in a thin layer and spread it well, allowing the wood to absorb the stain fully and achieve a deep, glossy finish.
Which Types of Wood Are Suitable?
Apply the product directly. If the wood still has a factory gloss, which may prevent the product from penetrating the wood as the pores are sealed, the surface will first require pre-treatment. Untreated, grey wood should be cleaned with DECK CLEANER. If needed, lightly sand the wood with 100-grit paper. Greyed wood previously treated with oil should have the oil layers removed using the AQUANETT® system and then cleaned with DECK CLEANER. If needed, sand lightly with 100-grit paper. Wood with old paint, varnish, or stain layers should have existing solvent- or alkyd-based coatings removed with the MARINE STRIP system and then cleaned with DECK CLEANER. For existing water-based coatings, please contact us directly. To check if the wood has a factory gloss layer, perform the water drop test. Place a drop of water on the wood. If it does not penetrate, the wood is not yet absorbent. The gloss layer must be removed naturally (e.g., by sanding or brushing) or chemically with AQUANETT®. The wood must be clean, sound, and dry, with at least three rain-free days and a maximum moisture content of 18%. The surface should be prepared according to professional standards and prevailing norms, ensuring it is free of dust, mould, grease spots, and previous finishing layers. Do not apply the product in full sun during the hottest hours of the day. For 24/48 hours after application, avoid rain. Optimum drying requires approximately 50% relative humidity. Be cautious of morning dew. Cover anything you do not wish to treat thoroughly.
What is the Coverage Per m²?
Coverage depends on the surface and application, with approximately 13 m² per coat. Keep in mind that rough or highly absorbent wood may require more product than smooth or pre-treated wood. For a more accurate estimate, we recommend performing a small test application on a similar surface beforehand. This allows you to account for factors such as wood type, porosity, and the condition of the surface, contributing to a more efficient and economical use of Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain.
Protects Against Greying with Anti-Slip Properties
One of the unique features of Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain is its ability to protect wood against greying. Thanks to special UV filters and antioxidants in its formula, this stain prevents wood from greying and helps it retain its natural appearance for much longer. This makes it ideal for use in maritime environments where wood is constantly exposed to sunlight and other weather conditions.
Additionally, the stain provides excellent anti-slip properties, crucial for safety on wet and slippery surfaces such as ship decks and piers. The anti-slip formula ensures better grip without compromising the aesthetic of the wood. This makes it a reliable choice for both professional applications and DIY projects where safety and durability are paramount.
How Many Coats of Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain Should I Apply?
We recommend applying 2 coats of Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain to ensure optimal protection and durability. The first coat penetrates deeply into the wood, establishing a solid foundation, while the second coat provides an extra protective barrier against wear and weather. Make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying the second. Follow the recommended drying times and be mindful of environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature for the best results. When both coats are applied correctly, Owatrol ATG Anti-Slip Stain offers long-lasting protection and a beautiful finish for all your wooden surfaces.
