VP Platinum PU Matt Lacquer is an extremely wear and scratch-resistant topcoat suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Platinum Matt Lacquer is turpentine-based, making it highly suitable for outdoor applications. VP Platinum Matt Lacquer also has an outdoor lifespan of 6 to 7 years, which is unique for a matt finish.
This lacquer is an exceptionally weather-resistant outdoor paint that provides a reliable semi-gloss layer on wood, metal, and hard plastics. This product is part of our own brand and is comparable to Sikkens Rubbol products. We can, of course, mix this matt lacquer in black to create a matt black turpentine-based paint.

Matt black turpentine-based paint?
For outdoor tasks, alkyd lacquer is the ideal product. This lacquer resists weather conditions better, giving it a longer lifespan than water-based products. Typically, alkyd lacquer tends to yellow when used indoors. If you want to use alkyd paint indoors, ensure it contains a “dark yellow resistance” formula, which prevents yellowing indoors. This premium matt black lacquer is unique, as most matt paints are water-based. What is the coverage per m² for this product?
The coverage of VP lacquers is 12 to 14 m² per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with VP lacquer. It’s better to have a bit too much paint than too little.
What kind of brush do I need for alkyd lacquer?
When applying alkyd paint or lacquer, it’s important to choose the right brush. The right brush ensures an even application with excellent absorption and release. What kind of roller do I need?
Using a roller helps create a smooth and even finish. You don’t want to be picking lint out of your paintwork. Absorption and release are essential. We recommend using the Copenhagen or Anza felt rollers when working with alkyd paint or lacquer.
What primer do I need?
Primer and undercoat are essentially the same thing. Both ensure proper adhesion of the final product. They also save costs on absorbent surfaces. A primer reduces absorbency, allowing more coverage per litre of paint. This leads to a superior finish and cost savings. The primer for this product is VP Platinum Primer.
