The Nelfapre 4 Seasons Primer is a base coat perfect for exterior use. Suitable for wood, metal, and hard plastics, the Nelfapre 4 Seasons is specially formulated for all weather conditions. You can apply it at temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius, and it dries quickly. This product pairs excellently with the 4 Seasons High Gloss paint. If you’re looking to paint during colder weather, choose the Nelfapre 4 Seasons Primer along with the Nelfapre Xtreme 4 Seasons paint.
The 4 Seasons Primer is easy to clean with your regular household cleaning products. The ideal application temperature is between 0–20 degrees Celsius, with a maximum humidity of 85%. Under optimal conditions (10 degrees), the primer can be recoated after just 3 hours, allowing you to finish your project in one day. Another great advantage of this primer is that it’s ready to use, meaning there’s no need to thin it. However, if you prefer, you can thin the primer with turpentine.

What is the coverage per m²?
The coverage of Nelf primers is approximately 12 to 16 m² per litre. However, based on our experience, most painters achieve coverage of around 10 to 12 m² per litre. It’s better to have a little extra paint than to run out partway through the project.

Which gloss level is recommended?
While primers don't have specific gloss levels, you can find recommendations for your topcoat below. For exterior use, high-gloss paint is most suitable as it has a longer lifespan. Its smooth surface reduces dirt adhesion and makes cleaning easier. Gloss levels are measured numerically:
High gloss (60–90): Ideal for exterior applications
Satin gloss (30–60): Suitable for hiding imperfections in the surface
Matte paint (below 30): Best for interior applications
For surfaces that aren’t flawless, satin gloss is often preferred. DIY painters also favour satin gloss as it can better mask minor surface irregularities.
Which topcoat should I use?
When choosing a topcoat, there are many options. As long as it’s based on the same solvent, you can use any turpentine-based topcoat over this primer. For the best results, we recommend staying within the same brand, such as Sikkens Rubbol Express High Gloss. If high gloss feels too shiny, there are also satin gloss options like Sikkens Rubbol Finura Satin. Unfortunately, matte finishes aren’t available for turpentine-based paints. For a matte look, you’d need to consider water-based alternatives.
